PBA promotes high standards in partnership brokering and requires all those who complete our Professional Accreditation Programme and who pass the examination process to sign a set of good practice principles prior to being awarded formal their Accreditation.
1 | BE PRINCIPLED & ACCOUNTABLE by always striving to be the best we can be; upholding a principled approach; assessing if partnering is the most appropriate approach; raising any concerns in a timely manner and not exposing those likely to be impacted. |
2 | ALLOCATE REGULAR TIME FOR REFLECITVE PRACTICE in order to think through the impact of our interventions; consider ‘what is needed now?’ and to pay attention to different interests, the changing context and how any brokering interventions may need to change. |
3 | PUSH BOUNDARIES by being prepared to challenge inequities, assumptions and poor partnering behaviours in ways that bring about transformative change. |
4 | BUILD SKILLS & CONFIDENCE IN OTHERS through widening perspectives on resources; being inclusive; sharing insights, experience and knowledge generously – enabling partners to take on brokering roles and responsibilities with competence and courage. |
5 | ENHANCE OUR OWN SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE by keeping up to date with emerging thinking and practice; having a learning mindset, investing in further profession- al development; knowing our limitations and accepting when someone else would be better suited to the role. |
6 | ACKNOWLEDGE OUR ASSUMPTIONS & BIASES in terms of our ability to really know the lived experience of others and by becoming more conscious of our blind spots and of the risk of imposing our own world views and preconceptions. |

All partnership brokers – whether formally accredited or not – are strongly advised and encouraged to review their practice against these commitments on a regular basis in order to assess where their approach may be deviating from them and / or to consider how they may best be upheld – especially when working under pressure or in challenging contexts.
This encourages reflection and self-critique and provides a level of structure to an individual’s brokering activities. It also helps to set and maintain the highest partnership brokering standards worldwide and to build the credibility of partnership brokering as a paradigm.
The Partnership Brokers Association awards formal professional Accreditation to those that have successfully completed the 4-day Partnership Brokers Training as well as having reached a satisfactory standard (assessed by a formal examination process) in their on-going partnership brokering work at the end of our Accreditation programme.
